Brass Band Baja/Pune Stories
Project type
Short Documentary Film, Filmmaking
Date
2018
Location

About
This documentary follows one of the last surviving brass bands in Pune, capturing the lives of musicians whose livelihoods are steadily disappearing. As loudspeakers, PA systems, and DJ culture have become the preferred soundtrack for weddings and public celebrations, the demand for live brass bands has sharply declined.
Once an integral part of the city's cultural fabric, these musicians now face an uncertain future. Many have been forced to leave their profession in search of alternative work, taking up jobs as auto-rickshaw drivers, daily wage labourers, and other forms of manual employment.
Through intimate conversations and vibrant performances, the film documents their stories, resilience, and enduring passion for music, while reflecting on the quiet disappearance of a tradition that once echoed through the streets of Pune.
